5 Social Media Trends to Look Out for in 2022
Social Media is Changing.
With Facebook changing its name to Meta and it shut down in early October. I personally would take this as a warning because this won’t be the first time we are going to see this. Facebook has already ramped up its ad prices and with the gazillion changes they’ve made to their Groups, Feed, and Pages interface, a lot of people are ready to leave the platform. Here’s the thing, Facebook is going to continue to rip off apps that they can’t buy off, NextDoor being the latest one. Facebook is a GIANT in the social media world, but there are others that are hot on the trail.
TikTok is Continuing to Dominate
TikTok is a popular media app that has grown in popularity over the years. In fact, it had 383 million downloads in the first quarter of 2021 and it made AppAnnie’s list of the most downloaded apps of all time between 2010-2019, so there is a lot of growth happening on that platform. It was once known as a social media app for people to post short videos of themselves, but now it has evolved into something more. TikTok was created with the intent of promoting originality and creativity. It's an excellent tool for spiritual business owners to utilize because it allows you to create content at a much quicker pace than other social media channels.
There are so many psychics, shamans, tarot card readers, energy readers, reiki healers, mystics, and witches on that platform growing like crazy and no it’s not the 20-year-olds. It’s the 20, 30, 40, and yes even 50-year-olds on that platform who are truly making moves with their business on there. Whether it’s going live doing free readings or just making videos on how to heal your energy, when you know how to work the algorithm, it’s very easy to grow. TikTok is in a very good place right now as far as early adoption goes, but it’s not going to stay that way. Early adoption usually lasts until the three-year mark and then it will be hard to grow once they perfect their ads. LinkedIn is the exception to this rule.
The Evolution of Social Media Marketplaces
Social media has evolved from a simple platform to an essential element in e-commerce. This is because social media helps brands connect with their customers and share their stories. The gig economy has been around for a while but the rise of social media has led to a new kind of marketplace. Similar to freelance platforms, these platforms provide workers with a way to sell their services through social media. The main difference is that they specialize in specific skills and products or services rather than offering a range of jobs. They offer freelancing opportunities for those who need anything from graphic design work or translation, as well as those who want to sell their artwork or handmade items.
As digital marketing becomes more important for spiritual businesses, so does social media e-commerce. With the evolution of social media marketing and influencer marketing, not many people find it surprising that there is a large number of social media marketplaces these days. Lots of spiritual entrepreneurs and businesses are also using this new type of advertising by integrating their e-commerce platforms with social media platforms or using influencers on Instagram or YouTube to promote their products. As these two industries continue to grow together, they will become more intertwined than ever before.
Going Live
Going live on social media or just using any live-stream technology is an essential component of any business’s marketing strategy. If your business is mainly about spirituality, its importance is intensified because it will offer you a huge potential to reach out to people who are looking for answers and guidance in their life.
When you do Facebook live or Instagram live videos, it will be easy for your followers to find your posts because they are on the top of their feeds. Even if they miss one of your posts, they can always go back and see them later with the Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn algorithm, so you don’t have to worry about people missing any information related to your business. This type of social media is an excellent way for spiritual leaders to connect with their audience. It builds trust and relationships at a much faster pace than other forms of social media.
I can understand the anxiety of live-streaming which is why I say practice makes perfect. The only way to get over the fear of going live is to go live! Here are some topics you can talk about in your lives

Genuine Connections Will Be on the Rise
I have seen so many (mostly older folks) spiritual entrepreneurs saying that social media is the devil. “Everyone is being fake on there, there’s no one that is truly genuine.” Social media is becoming more polarized with people talking past one another. Most of the time, the goal is to win an argument rather than have a meaningful discussion. This type of unhealthy discussion can lead to problems in other aspects of life. How do people use social media to develop genuine connections? How can people use social media in a positive way?
People are often afraid that their posts will be seen as narcissism or self-promotion. The solution is simple, though: just post things you're genuinely interested in and feel passionate about. It takes being open-minded and having a willingness to connect with others on your social networks - not just talk at them.
No one is going to want to buy from someone selling their products or services when they are posting about it. People buy into the LIFESTYLE on social media, not the products or services that go with it. What is the lifestyle you are selling them? Think about that first before posting the next sale or your services without any sort of context on why they should be getting it.
When sliding into the DMs, do it with purpose. Why do you want to connect with them and don’t say it’s because “I want their business!”. Be intentional about who you connect with and think about how and why you really like them. Then leave a voice memo stating all of those things, yes I said voice memo, not a text.
People Are Going to be Using Their Devices Less
In today's society, it has been proven that social media is a culprit in the worsening of mental health. With the number of people using social media, this was bound to happen. How will social media withdrawal manifest in a future where people will be more compelled to use their devices less?
With more and more people becoming aware of the negative effects on mental health, they will start to cut back on their usage. In fact, some reports have even gone as far as to say that if we eliminate social media from our lives completely, that the number of suicides would decrease by 10%. We should not think that these reports are wrong or unfounded because they are coming from experts in their fields on the subject matter.
This may be the reason (among many other reasons), why so many people have very short attention spans on social media and people can absorb micro-content faster and better. This is why I suggest always keeping your live videos between 5-10 mins unless you’re doing card pulls. Your IG Reels and TikTok videos around 30 - 60 seconds.
