How to Use Slack

We are almost at the end of the 2010's and it's been a wild ride technology wise since the start of the decade. We've got tablets, smartphones and messaging systems in social media sites that are more effective than email ever would. The numbers show that more and more people use social media devices to find brand new products, and many of those social media sites will direct message those businesses on social media rather than finding them on a website and getting their email address. As I have explained in my post about emails going extinct, the way we communicate with our teams are drastically changing.

What Is Slack?

Slack is a collaborative communication tool that is used in most modern, tech savvy companies in a lot of marketing, communication teams around the country and around the world! Slack is an acronym for Searchable Log of All Conversation and Knowledge. Rather than having to rely on email to communicate with another team member to talk about a project or a deadline (or in my office, exchange gifs), you can communicate in real time using Slack, making everything easier for you and your team members. It's basically Facebook Messenger with the option of making channels for your team.

How Can I Use it for my Team?

If you have a marketing team, you can communicate graphics, videos, and other projects everyone else is working on through Slack! You can easily invite people on your team through Slack via email and if your team members don't have Slack they can sign up very easily.

With Slack you can:

  • Mute the channels you do not want to follow or receive notifications on

  • Set the status for what you want it to say, if you don't want to be interrupted, you can use an "away" message.

  • Search everything using advanced search, starred buttons do the same thing.
