4 Top Trends in Social Media Right Now

It's no secret that social media has really taken off in the last twelve years. I mean looking at Facebook alone, which has grown at an incredible exponential rate over the last 5-10 years, it has changed dramatically and has arguably been the center of many social media trends. The truth of the matter is that social media has become more visual and dynamic. With gifs and videos with captions taking over the ranks of Facebook, texts posts have become a thing of the past.

With that being said, here are the top five trends in social media right now accompanied by the wonderful infographic from Social Media Today via Whisk Data.

1. Videos.

Did you know that YouTube has now become the SECOND largest popular search engine? It is also the third most visited social media site. This means that more businesses will have the pressure put on them to create videos on Youtube and share it on social media channels.

2. Animated GIFs.

With over 23 million gifs uploaded to Tumblr daily, and 5 million gifs being shared on Facebook on a regular basis, GIFs have become the internet's favorite obsession. From a business standpoint, GIFs are inexpensive and less time consuming, and can get a message sent across faster than a video.

3. Real time streaming.

From Facebook Live to Snapchat, streaming is now experiencing a boom. People want to stream their moments as they are experiencing it. A lot of businesses, especially small businesses have taken the concept, and turned it into an Ask Me Anything, ala Reddit or DIY with a Q&A at the end.

4. Infographics.

832% of tweets are retweeted tweets containing infographics! That's a huge number and the fact that 40% of people will respond better with a visual aid than plain text only backs up this statement.

Social media marketing has definitely become more and more of a media source, and it's not enough to be a good writer anymore. You have to think outside of the box, which is why creating appealing graphics, videos and gifs is super important. Creating groups on Facebook and creating Facebook Live streams in order for people to pay attention in this ever- changing world is super important for any business big or small. In order to stay ahead of the game, your small business will have to evolve with the times.
