Are You Engaging with Your Audience?

If you are one of the many that paid someone on Fiver to get a bunch of bots to your page "to grow a page", then you need to listen up. Engagement on social media is essential for growth, and having an audience that is seeing and listening to what you put out, is also important. While creating content that will play on emotions will get your audience to engage, you will also need to actively interact. I tell my clients and prospects this all the time: social media is a two way street, if you are not engaging with your audience, you are not doing your job.

How Can You Engage?

This is a question I get all the time from prospects. What's the best strategy I can use to engage my audience? The answer is, there is no one size fits all strategy. Algorithms are always changing on every single platform every day. It also depends on your business, your industry and your specific niche. What do you do specifically that makes you stand out as a coach, yoga teacher, software designer, or a beauty expert? When you figure that out, creating content should be simple. Live videos on most platforms will always get people engaged as well as graphics with simple text.

Don't Promote All the Time!

One of the biggest mistakes I see many brands do, both big and small is promote, promote, promote all the time! It's nice to have a post once a week about your brand and what you sell, but it's annoying for a customer on Facebook to see it all the time, unless they are seeing an ad. What people want to see is the face behind the brand, whether that's you, your team, or your customers. They want personality! They don't want to be sold to, they want to be ENGAGED with you!

Get the Stats!

According to a study done by The Manifest, 86% of people use social media daily and 72% use it multiple times a day. That means your audience is most likely seeing other content from pages all the time. Time to stand out from the pack! It's even more important to consider that 46% of people prefer accessing social media through mobile apps. These numbers are only growing as another report stated that social media users grew by 100 million during the first quarter of 2018. This is despite all the privacy concerns with Facebook, and the bot drama with Twitter!

More people also used YouTube and Instagram in 2018, than Facebook or Snapchat. Which is a shocker! Most will assume that Facebook reigns king, but it certainly doesn't. The trend continues that more people like to watch videos and see images rather than see text on a post. If your posts aren't getting the engagement you'd like, then less static images, more gifs and videos will do the trick. The gender stats are the most interesting; Most women check social media multiple times a day, and they are checking via mobile app! On the flip side men prefer to check social media via desktop. 75% of females check social media multiple times a day compared to 64% of men.

What Can I Do?

  1. Make sure to check who your target audience is, and align it with this data.

  2. Do some A/B Testing, check to see what is working and go from there. Make sure you give at least 1-3 months for each test.

  3. Get on all the available platforms, don't put all of your eggs in one basket!
